Teijin Aramid launched the next generation aramid fabric Twaron CT 608, based on the high performing lightweight aramid yarn, Twaron 550dtex f1000. Tests conducted on Twaron CT 608 fabrics proved that it is possible to achieve up to 20% weight reduction of a ballistic panel while offering the same ballistic performance. Teijin Aramid also announced it’s now offering new water repellent treatments for its ballistic fabrics ensuring the best performance level even in wet conditions.
Confronted with higher threat levels, usage in more extreme climates and an increasing demand for weight savings is requesting new products. The new Twaron CT 608 fabric is providing a significant weight reduction at the same ballistic performance or an increased ballistic performance at the same weight of a vest.
Twaron CT 608 is based on the high performing lightweight aramid yarn, Twaron 550dtex f1000, the world’s first ultra-microfilament para-aramid fiber. “This yarn provides more ballistic stopping power than any other para-aramid yarn on the market today. Never before has strength been so lightweight”, said Henke. To address even more demanding threats, fabrics made out of this ultra-thin Twaron yarn can be combined with other products to create hybrid solutions.
Water repellent treatment
Teijin Aramid is offering different treatments for its ballistic fabrics. One of these is Water Repellent Treatment (WRT), ensuring ballistic fabrics remain on a high performance level even in wet conditions. Teijin Aramid today introduced three improved water repellent treatment recipes for its clients. These new treatments are more environmentally friendly than the water repellent treatment finish that has been used in the past. High demanding ballistic testing has been used for both dry and wet conditions to prove performance being at least equivalent or superior to current technology.
